Ayurveda & Detox for Optimal Health Sunday April 9th with Amita

Ayurveda- the science of life- is the oldest healing system on the planet. Ayurveda looks at the root cause of our imbalances and explores how we are all connected to each other, to nature, and the universe as we know it. In this workshop, Amita will explain how to incorporate ayurvedic knowledge into your daily lives by establishing a routine that promotes healing and improves quality of life. She will also give you simple tools to improve your health through the balanced and dynamic integration of environment, body, mind, and spirit. She welcomes a dialogue on how the integration of Ayurveda and Yoga offers perhaps the most complete system of physical, psychological, and spiritual well being in the world.

About Amita: Amita Desai comes from a family with Ayurvedic heritage and practices that go back more than three generations. She left India in 1972 for Melbourne, Australia and has lived in the US since 1990. By profession Amita is a Senior Environmental Chemist working for the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

About ten years ago during a crossroads in her life, Amita was reminded of how much she loves Ayurveda and how much she wants to share her practical knowledge of it with others. She decided to pursue formal education at Kerala Ayurveda Academy in Seattle, WA. Amita’s knowledge of Ayurvedic practices is, in large part, the result of her upbringing. Having lived it, she is in a unique position to pass on this wealth of information. Through the process of sharing, she hopes to educate and empower.

Last but not least, Amita is an expert cook. Most of her cooking is Ayurvedically inspired, infused with herbs and seasonal vegetables she lovingly grows at home. Amita is equally fond of walking and practicing yoga, Pangu yoga, and Pangu Tai Chi. She also enjoys singing and chanting. But most of all Amita lives to share and give as much as possible.

Testimonials from Amita’s students:

This workshop, An Introduction To Ayurveda, offers much more than a book could ever attempt to impart. Led by Amita Desai, born and raised in India, she is the ultimate teacher and guide on the principles of this ancient lifestyle. Informative, funny and thorough, Amita engagingly takes her students through the basics of Ayurveda. With personal stories and a heartfelt love and respect for this way of living, she teaches you the importance of nourishing the body, mind and spirit in a sacred fashion. She shares a hand out for her students to take home, a guide to beginning the day the Ayurveda way. As a special treat, students are given a gift made lovingly by Amita, another natural support of the body. And, don’t bother about getting on the web to buy Ayurveda tools for daily living, she ’s got the authentic ones and as a convenience she offers them for sale at the end of the workshop. I came away feeling calm, directed and excited about this new knowledge and have been implementing her Ayurveda daily living guide ever since. I can’t wait for her follow up workshops with more of her personal sharing experiences and delving deeper into all things Ayurveda. Thank you Amita! T. Denton

Amita is a true gem in our community. She has a deep knowledge of the theory and history of Ayurveda but more importantly, she has practiced it all her life. Based on her experience, Amita presents the information in a clear and practical way making it very approachable and relevant for everyone. Amita brings a scientific curiosity to what she is teaching while maintaining a sparkling sense of humor. ~ Denise S.

Spring Yoga & Essential Oil Detox & Renew Workshop Friday April 7th with Mary

Spring is the time to clean out and refresh. Just as we clean out closets and drawers to make life lighter and ready for the warmth ahead, we can clean out our bodies and minds, ridding ourselves of the sluggishness of the winter.

Enjoy a refreshing yoga practice that will aid the body in the process of detoxing the liver (the major organ responsible for flushing toxins from the body) and provide you with essential oils to support the detox process. Experience an all levels, slow flow with a focus on twisting and grounding to create mindfulness and encourage downward flow of energy. As you release the toxins in the body, you will feel lighter, more energized, and renewed for the spring and summer ahead.
