Trauma Sensitive Teacher Training Sat. & Sun. Mar. 11th & 12th with Barbara

Cost: $120 early registration (by March 3rd)
$130 after March 3rd

Saturday March 11th: 3:00pm-6:00pm
Sunday March 12th: 1:00pm-3:30pm

Most of us have had some first-hand experience with a traumatic event-an automobile accident, an unexpected loss of a loved one, being affected by a natural disaster such as a hurricane – and over time, we are able to recover. But for others, the experience of a traumatic event is more severe or long-lasting, and thus has a more dramatic effect. Recent research suggests that yoga can be helpful to those affected by the impact of trauma.

In this workshop, we will review the psychology and neurobiology of trauma, current concepts in trauma theory, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and current approaches to helping individuals with PTSD. We will discuss research that indicates how yoga can be helpful to individuals recovering from trauma. A model for offering trauma-sensitive yoga classes will be offered, with a focus on teacher and classroom qualities that can help you provide a safe and healing space for your students.

Learning Objectives:

1) Understand the ways trauma affects the brain and body including the development of PTSD.

2) Learn yogic practices that can be applied to relieving trauma symptoms

3) Name the essential elements of a trauma-sensitive yoga class

4) Learn specific approaches to teaching yoga to students with trauma.

This workshop is appropriate for Yoga teachers, Mental Health professionals, yoga students, and other wellness professionals seeking to learn more about how yoga can be useful in healing the effects of trauma.

Yoga Teachers can receive 5.5 CEU hours for this workshop
